My Little Padawan

And with no surprise my eldest son Tom asked for a Jedi costume for his 2016 carnival !

DSC_5276
Let’s say his father is a huge fan of the saga, and on the occasion of the realease of the new trilogy this winter, they watched the old episodes together, passing the “virus”. And I must admit it was good for me, having the perfect pattern at home !

IMG_0719
Indeed, Burda proposed in its January 2013 edition a few Star Wars patterns. And the 149 combo was exactly what I needed for my Tommy !

DSC_5251
Let’s start with the coat, sewn in a “cretonne” cotton from Mondial Tissus. No difficulty with this pattern which includes a lined hood, and very basic finishes.

DSC_5255
I chose the 116 size, knowing Tommy’s size is 119. And I had to take 3cms off at the hem : the coat is quite long. Let’s see the shirt ?

DSC_5258
A very basic pattern here too, and though, Burda managed to place us a perilous sewing technique : a V neck bordered invisibly with bias.

DSC_5261
Well, I’ve cursed over it for 2 hours but I nailed it. Same for the regtancular sleeves : we could think this is easy to sew, but it was hard to get something quite clean. If someone told me I would dream to sew regular sleeves one day ! 😀

DSC_5262
For the fabrics I took some scraps of my Ikea muslin yardage : as the fabric is quite “rudimentary”, it sticks well with the Jedi “style”. (anyway this is what my husband, aka the Star Wars specialist, decreed. 😀 )

DSC_5263
For the belt I just took a band of leatherette and sewn some velcro on the ends…easy-peasy !

DSC_5273
Conclusion: a happy and pround little boy = a happy mama ! I nailed it…at least until his sister’s costume, which is a big big challenge for me. Wish me luck !

A good week Ladies ! ❤❤

Chardon & Mélilot

I knew this combo would work…but not that it would become one of my fav outfits ! ❤

DSC_5124
Let’s start with this new Chardon : 2 years ago I realized this summer version, but in fact it was a fail. The chosen linen was not adapted to this pattern : too sheer, and not holding itself. I needed a new one.

DSC_5145
I found this little piece of gabardine at my favorite retailer Monsieur Albert, I traced my pattern in 38,5, I refined my finishes and when it was time to dress-up, distaster…it’s really tight at the waist.

DSC_5180
I’m confused : my 38-size versions are ok, why would this one be smaller than the other ones ? Simply because I made a big mistake at the beginning : my fabric was too small to keep with the straight grain, I used cunning by cutting my pieces in the other direction. And the result is not the same ! Finally I can wear it, but obviously, comfort is not the same.

DSC_5134
DSC_5133
DSC_5206
For the first time I sewed the zipper as explained in the booklet : I really love the more subtle result on a regular zipper. And I finished the facing with bias.

DSC_5225
Let’s see this one as a practice for the next perfect one !

DSC_5172
Let’s switch to Mélilot ?

DSC_5146
I had a real crush for this little collar, and when I met the white viscose version of the shooting, I needed the same. Summer version to wear it right now !

DSC_5192
It was hard to find the right fabric : it needs to be flowing and nontransparent. Finally I found it in la Plaine Market : a white viscose. Sewing it was not easy, but really, I dit not regret it : I’m crazy of this shirt.

DSC_5143
I made a mix between the A and B version : instead of the cuffed short sleeves, I finished the armholes with bias cut in my viscose scraps. We can see the hand sewn stitches, but I really love the result.

DSC_5205
The hidden buttonband is so classy, and associated to this little round collar, the whole thing is just adorable.

DSC_5175
DSC_5174
I know some of you asked me how the Melilot shirt turns on me non-tucked into something, so we took some pictures with a pair of jean.

DSC_5042
I traced a 38,5 for the bust and enlarged from the waist to the hips with a 40,5 size and the fit is really good !

DSC_5045
DSC_5047
The pearl buttons come from “La Droguerie”. I’ve got some difficulty to sew the upper hidden buttonhole : so I ripped my collar a little bit to reach it. Next time I will sew this buttonhole just before sewing my collar, it will be easier. Or maybe you have a tip ?

DSC_5055
Conclusion : I ‘m crazy about this outfit , both very modern and vintage . The shirt opens me infinite perspectives : worn over shorts, in jeans, in a skirt, under a sweater in the fall … a real basic . And Chardon… although slightly too tight, it reminds me of my favorite movie whenever I dress it…

…and only for this reason I love it ! 😀

Have a great week Ladies, and take care. ❤

Miette Cardigan

2 years. 2 years admiring the Miette cardigans, being deeply sure I wasn’t able to knit one. And one day, we don’t know why, we get into it. And it’s a revelation !

DSC_4943
Since this last garment, we could think that I didn’t knit anything, and this is not true. I mainly made wrong choices :  a fingering yellow cardi I realized middle back it won’t suit with anything in my wardrobe, 2 endless fingering cardigans, a knitting and a crochet one…I really do not have any tenacity in knitting. So I drowned my sorrows in easy and quick knitting projects for my family.

DSC_5000
A hat for my husband, as a wedding anniversary gift. He chose the pattern and the color : he wanted something quite simple, and I think he’s happy.

For Tom and Juliette, I wanted to knit them a little winter set according to this Drops pattern. If the pattern was great to knit, the Big Delight yarn was not appropriate : it’s an itchy wool, and it’s felting very quickly. The kids were nice enough to wear it, only for pleasing me. I promised them I’ll do better next year ! 😀

And then for Paul, I made again this Phildar hat. As it was only proposed in a single size, I tried to enlarge it, and finally, this is too big. 😀 The eldests call it “the Chewbacca hat”. 😀 Let’s say it’s ready for next winter ! 😀

See, after all those discomfitures, I could have organized a bonfire with my KnitPro needles. 😀 However, the revelation was just here, under my nose.

DSC_4947
A year ago, I opened the Miette pdf…and closed it right away, freaked out by all those acronyms. And then I saw all those wonderful versions like Camille one…and finally convinced myself I could do it me too !

DSC_4965
And it was so easy, I blamed myself for having waited so long ! You just have to knit, row after row, your garment : Andi traced for you a road, which is very great to walk by.

DSC_4996
This is a seamless top down construction. Believe me, if I could knit this in a little month, you can do it too !

DSC_4914
I chose the smallest size, and it’s a little tigh at the waist. At the bust the fit is okay. I think the garment got a little bit larger during the blocking time , especially the sleeves, which are not supposed to be so longs.

DSC_4927
Or I’ve got very tiny arms. 😀

DSC_4939
I chose the Nepal yarn from Drops and it was very great to knit. A BBC as the English ladies would name it : a Black Boring Cardigan. 😀

DSC_4964
On the other side I hope somebody will be able to explain to me why the upper button is not centered as the other ones. I followed the instructions tough. Let’s modify this for the next one.

DSC_4993
My buttons come from “la Droguerie” : you don’t see it on the pictures but they’re shiny under the sunlight. Just adorable !

DSC_4994
Conclusion: if I tell you a new version is already on my needles, do you believe me ? Love at first sight for this pattern, and for all the Andi’s ones. The hardest part will be to pick up the next one !

DSC_4944
A great week Ladies. ❤❤

Easter Belladone

Seems like I’ve got a new ritual. 😀 Easter was coming, I wanted a new dress, and Belladone came in my mind…as it did last year. 😉

DSC_4861
Besides, concerning the previous one, it happened what I predicted : I love it so much that I do not dare wearing it. And it’s totally stupid, I agree with you. 😀 I only wear it in special occasions, which it’s not happening every morning. And I fear this one will live the same destiny. (foolish, I know. 😀 )

DSC_4797
This amazing fabric, I found it in at the Plaine Market, Marseille. Love at first sight : its flowers, its colors, its shades hypnotized me, and I immediatly saw a Belladone.

DSC_4867
By touching it I think it’s cotton piqué : quite thick, maybe a little bit too much for this pattern, but whatever, it was an evidence for me. A the end, the skirt misses some smoothness, but the result is quite harmonious.

DSC_4783
The fabric fraying a lot, I didn’t know how to sew it. I searched some advices in my sewing books : I simply overlocked the seam allowances with my overlock machine, and fusing the zipper seam allowances. And It works !

DSC_4905
DSC_4909
As you can see it, I added some pipping. 😀 I couldn’t imagine Belladone without pipping. 😀 And I chose the closed back version.

DSC_4904
Binding for the neckband and the armholes…

DSC_4908
…and white cotton for the pocket bases.

DSC_4907
When I met Eleonore, she told me that based on my measurements, I’m wearing a 38.5 for the waist. I traced my pattern according to this new information : if it’s okay for the waist, it’s too large at the shoulders. This should be modified for the next one. (Easter 2017 probably. 😀 )

DSC_4792
DSC_4790
(This picture is weird, my skirt seems all strange when in reality it’s not the case. Go figure !)

DSC_4801
EXTREME BLOGGER !!!! 😀 😀 😀

DSC_4896
Good joking aside, what more could I say about this pattern that I love so much ? For me it’s one of the finest indie patterns. This dress is so feminine, so lovely. It’s a real pleasure to sew and to wear. (when you dare getting it out the wardrobe I mean. 😀 )
